From Hospitality to Homewares: The Story Behind HM Gallerie.

What a journey it has been! Before HM Gallerie came to life, Martin and I spent 13 incredible years as co-owners and managers of the Marina Hotel in Port Lincoln. Perched right on the water’s edge at Lincoln Cove Marina, the hotel was more than just a business - it was a community. We welcomed locals and travellers alike, hosted functions and celebrations, and created lifelong memories with the amazing people we met along the way.

Running a regional business certainly came with its challenges, but the unwavering support from customers, locals, and fellow small business owners kept us going. For that, we’ll always be grateful. To everyone who continues to champion small businesses — thank you. ❤️

Those years in hospitality taught us so much about people, community, and creating memorable experiences. And when the time came to start something new, we knew we wanted to carry those values forward into HM Gallerie.

What's in a Name?

Melissa Hains - founder & owner

Now, let’s clear up a common question: It’s not H&M… it’s HM Gallerie. And yes, there’s a story behind it.

The HM in our name stands for Home — a nod to our love for creating warm, stylish, and uniquely personal spaces.

Gallerie is where the vision comes in. Inspired by the elegance of an art gallery, our store is thoughtfully curated to showcase timeless homewares, kitchen treasures, and meaningful gifts. But the word also carries an architectural meaning: a gallery is a passage open at both ends. Much like our shop, it’s designed to feel open, welcoming, and inviting from the moment you step inside.
